Water's Edge Cafe Visiting Spirit (ghost) [search for Swannanoa]
Water's Edge Cafe - This turn-of-the-century inn was bought in the 1960's by an Englishman. It was then that the local ghost decided to make his presence known. The ghost appears as a heavy-set man who most often appears in the lounge or on the staircase. It is said that the ghost spoke to the proprietor, and claimed that his name was Armon Hirsuit. Despite extensive research, no one by that name can be located in the history of the area.

"Swannanoa: a community in Buncombe County [North Carolina]; name is derived from the Cherokee word Suwali-Nunna, meaning 'trail of the Suwali tribe.'"
By George Ellison, Smoky Mountain News
"'Swannanoa' is the anglicized form of the Cherokee word 'Suwali-nunna,' which means 'trail of the Suwali tribe.' The anthropologist James Mooney noted in Myths of the Cherokees (1900) that this trail ran from Cherokee lands 'to the Suwali tribe living east of the mountains.' They were also known as the Sara Indians."
